The Canon Foundation offers Visiting Research Fellowships to further the development of scholars and members of varied professions.
The European fellowship holders pursue a period of research in Japan whereas the Japanese fellows do their research at host institutions in Europe. Fellows are free in choosing their host institutes. The fellowships are awarded regardless of discipline and existing employment positions. The foundation gives priority to those who plan to travel to Europe or Japan rather than to prolong a current stay. |

Financial support for research fellows ranges from €22,500 to €27,500 per year, pro-rated for shorter periods. The fellowships are generally given for a term of one year, but shorter reseach stays, from three to six months, are also possible.
Fellowships may be taken up, at the earliest, January 1 of the year following the competition. The foundation grants up to 15 fellowships annually. |

Grants are offered, regardless of discipline, to European nationals and permanent residents who intend to go to Japan and to Japanese applicants who intend to go to Europe. Applicants may be based at institutions of learning or may be members of commercial, industrial, governmental, or professional organisations. Applicants should preferably hold a Ph.D. or at least a master's degree, and must not be older than 40 years of age. |
